Who we are:
Christian pilgrims, seeking together to:
-
become better disciples of Jesus;
-
be an open, welcoming and inclusive community;
-
play our part within the life of Ashburton and the wider world;
-
be a people-focused church;
-
communicate and live out our Christian faith;
-
work in partnership with the other churches in the town through Churches Together
Although we no longer worship in our traditional building (which is now an Arts Centre) Ashburton Methodists are still very much alive and active. Currently 20 – 25 of us meet for worship in the Parish Church Hall on a Sunday. Worship is the heart-beat of all churches and we are in the process of developing a varied pattern of services to suit different tastes and complement our sister churches in the town. Overall, we try to make what we do informal and accessible.
We meet at 10.30 am on a Sunday, except for the last Sunday of the month when we hold a 9am Breakfast Service.
The Breakfast Service is one of a range of services which, in partnership with our friends at St Andrew’s Parish Church, offer family-friendly church in Ashburton. Members are also actively involved in contributing to the monthly Messy Church and Fun-Size Church and the Churches Together Holiday Club in the summer. In addition, Moor Church takes place at various locations four times a year.
As Christians we are called to live out our faith throughout our lives, wherever God has placed us in the community. Individually, our members play their own parts within the life of Ashburton and the wider society by living out our faith at work; running a stall at the weekly Tuesday Community market; supporting and promoting charitable causes such as Christian Aid; supporting Ashburton Food Bank; volunteering; belonging to various groups and clubs - to name but a few. We believe we are part of God’s outgoing care, making a difference in the world.
